The month of September is a special month for the people of the Greater Rockford Area. There are a number of events and activities that will be presented to help our community focus on the concept of peace. On Wednesday, September 11th our chapel will have a theme tied to helping young people develop a sense of love for our nation as a beacon of peace in the world. Following chapel students will gather at the flagpole for a word of prayer. The dress code will be suspended for the day if students are dressed in red, white and blue to provide an outward demonstration of our commitment to the ideals that make our country special.
On Thursday September 12th you have been asked to sign a permission slip for our students to attend a balloon launch from the Keeling-Puri Peace Memorial on Perryville and Riverside. Candace King from WTVO Channel 17 will share some thoughts with students. The student’s balloons will contain a message of peace that hopefully will travel and land in the hands of someone who needs to order their thinking in a beneficial way. We will leave from the school parking lot at 9:30am and you are welcome to join us for a 30 minute event which will return our students to school before their lunch period. Look for a guest column in the Register Star on Wednesday that highlights Concordia’s contribution to this month long celebration.
